The Hospital Universitario de Caldas is located in the central region of Colombia, the coffee region. It is a quality accredited hospital and University Hospital with a long history of both research and training of professionals in various areas of health, also with a growing projection in innovation and technological and social development.
In 2021, the Integral Cancer Unit was created, which will be completed in 2023 with the opening of the new radiotherapy service, developed thanks to a strategic alliance that brings together public and private stakeholders, including industrial partners.
The integral cancer unit was born out of the need to provide the population of the region with high quality and complex treatments, reducing the need to travel to the largest cities in the country.
The radiotherapy service of the integral cancology unit is equipped with
- 1x Varian True Beam with 6 and 10 WFF and 6 and 10 FFF beams, with MLC 120, Identify system for SGRT, Perfect Pitch and Respiratory Gating: This Linac is state-of-the-art, prepared to offer IMRT/IMAT/SRS/SBRT with image-guided and surface-guided techniques.
- 1x Siemens Somatom go. Sim Computed Tomography for radiotherapy treatment simulations with respiratory gating.
- 1x General Electric, Signa Explorer 1.5 T MRI scanner available to provide high precision radiotherapy treatments.
- 1x Brachytherapy machine: Varian Bravos with 30 channels for HDR therapy with Ir-192.
For all types of dosimetry measurements and quality control of diagnostic and radiotherapy beams, a complete set of PTW products is used, such as

- Several PTW ion chambers (PinPoint, Semiflex3D, Semiflex, Farmer, Roos...) and solid state detectors (microDiamond).

The staff consists of radiation oncologists, nurses, clinical medical physicists, physicist engineers and radiotherapy technicians.
