Centro Oncológico Integral (COI) of Leben Salud is a reference center for oncology in Argentina, dedicated to high-complexity cancer care and the development of advanced practices in radiotherapy and nuclear medicine. Located in the Patagonian region, COI is part of the Fundación Médica de Río Negro y Neuquén (FUNMED), an institution with more than 40 years of experience, recognized for its commitment to quality, patient safety, and technological innovation.
COI operates an integrated oncology model supported by high-complexity technological infrastructure, including Elekta linear accelerators (Synergy and Infinity), with a third Elekta Evo to be installed in the near future; an HDR Flexitron brachytherapy system with a Co-60 source; SPECT-CT and PET-CT systems; multi-slice computed tomography; digital mammography with tomosynthesis; magnetic resonance imaging; and a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic platforms, mainly supplied by Siemens Healthineers.
Since 2017, FUNMED has launched its Medical Physics Residency Program. By pioneering the formal integration of university-based theoretical education with structured clinical training in Latin America and was first accredited by the International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP).
As part of a long-term strategic partnership, COI acts as the PTW Reference and Training Center in Argentina. Within this framework, it became the first institution in the country to clinically implement a broad and advanced portfolio of PTW solutions for dosimetry and quality assurance, including the clinical implementation of BEAMSCAN, supporting key stages of the radiotherapy quality assurance workflow such as acceptance testing, commissioning and clinical audits. This implementation reinforces COI’s leadership in modern radiotherapy quality assurance.
To support these activities, COI operates a broad portfolio of PTW systems for radiotherapy quality assurance, including:
- UNIDOS webline
- Isocheck EPID software with ISOBALL
- QUICKCHECK webline
- BEAMSCAN
- OCTAVIUS 4D with detectors OCTAVIUS 729 and OCTAVIUS 1500
- VeriSoft DVH 4D software
- MultiCheck software
- RW3 slab phantom
- X-Ray-Gamma-Dosimeter STEP OD-02
In the field of diagnostic imaging, COI is also a pioneer in quality assurance, employing PTW solutions for comprehensive QA across modalities, including:
- NORMI PAS Set 1054/KP with the aluminum step wedge for QA in mammography
- NOMEX R/F/MAM/CT+ for ppV measurements and dosimetry in all areas
- CT head & body phantom for CTDI measurements at CT systems
- NORMI RAD/FLU set Al for QA in radiography and fluoroscopy
PTW systems are systematically used not only in routine clinical quality assurance, but also in professional training activities, contributing to the strengthening of local capabilities and to the regional transfer of knowledge in medical physics and radiation-based technologies.
